Dwayne Cline (MDiv 2009) is the lead pastor of Hughson Street Baptist Church in the north end of Hamilton, Ontario. In an area where fifty-five percent of the children live below the poverty line, the church’s food bank serves 150 people a month. The congregation takes seriously God’s instructions to Israel in Jeremiah 29:7 to “seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” This verse challenges the typecast of apathy and narcissism of our culture and the younger generation – the average age of the Hughson Street congregation is under 30 years.
To become a member of Hughson Street a person has to…consider moving into the neighbourhood. Being there, living in the city, is a big part of seeking the peace and prosperity of the city. Because of Tyndale, pastors like Dwayne have the foundation to lead the local church into urban mission.
When you give, you strengthen the church; equipping its leaders to live a relevant and robust faith in the 21st century world.
